Awake

by Michael L. Miller

The light rushes in, blinding at first

And the room comes into view.

What time is it? Ugh...

Some mornings you never win.

Get your head right and find your feet.

To the bathroom, hesitant to flip the switch.

Blinded by light again and lift up the toilet seat

A sigh of relief once it gets past the rim.

Reach in, kick on the water

and when it starts steaming jump in.

Chills run down your spine

As the water soaks your skin.

Reach up, scrub your face

Wipe away the sleep.

No turning back now, you are Awake!

And the alarm clock goes beep, beep, beep...
